Xiaomi's Phone Catches Fire in Mumbai


Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S catches fire; Xiaomi says 'customer unduced damage'; don’t do these to ensure your phone is safe.



The user named Ishwar Chavhan, resident of Mumbai. As per his Facebook post, he purchased the Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S from Flipkart in October and things were fine till November 2. But that day, his Redmi Note 7S phone was kept on a table when he got a whiff of a burning smell and found that his phone was burning. He claims that he wasn’t charging the phone nor had he dropped the phone. While the user alleged that his brand new Redmi Note 7S caught fire because of a manufacturing defect, He contacted Xiaomi’s authorised store in Thane when he couldn’t take out his SIM card as the phone was badly burnt.

Xiaomi in an official statement to The Times of India- Gadgets Now denied any defects in the phone and said that the damage was due to “external force.”  When asked to comment on the matter, Xiaomi India in an email statement told The Times of India-Gadgets Now Here’s the company’s full statement,
 “At Xiaomi, quality of our products is of utmost importance. The trust that Mi Fans have shown in the brand for the past 5 years is a testament to that. We also take pride in having one of the strongest after-sales networks in the country with an aim to solve customer issues seamlessly. In this particular case, after careful examination, it was concluded that the damage was caused due to external force, and thus, classified under ‘customer induced damage.”

Incidents of smartphones catching fire have luckily become less but sometimes a disruptions does take place. The most recent one involves a smartphone from Xiaomi where a user from Mumbai has alleged that his Redmi Note 7S caught fire because of a manufacturing defect. But the Xiaomi prove that the damage to the phone was “customer induced.”

Five days after Xiaomi examined the phone, Chavhan wrote that he was told there was something wrong with the battery. He claims that there was a manufacturing defect which led to the mishap and going by his social media post warly unhappy with the Xiaomi product and the after-sales service.
